Unmetered Supplier Turns-Off FireFly

Posted: 06th Sep, 2003 By: MarkJ
UPDATE: FireFly has managed to resolve the issue (see 'Comments' link above). Having paid the suppliers (not named) bill on time, UK ISP FireFly (FF) has been angered to find that the very same unmetered dialup supplier has, without warning, switched the service off.

The company concerned is apparently not responding to FF's hails and has stopped end-user access on two of the ISPs unmetered dialup numbers; 08089909019 and 08089909889.

It's alleged that the event occurred as a direct result of FF suggesting that it was considering moving the port supply away from them in favour of another supplier. While this may result in some disruption, there does appear to be light at the end of the tunnel:

We have already contacted our main supplier, replacement AND additional ports will be active on Monday reducing our already low contention ratio even further, we are actively pursuing these to be installed ASAP.

In the short term, over this weekend you may experience a number of redials as all customers attempt to login to either 08089996787 or 08089933286. I would ask you to be patient and considerate to all over this coming weekend and if you are not using your connection, please disconnect. To ease this a little, a 5 minute idle timeout has already been put in place.

Please bear with us over this very short period of inconvenience forced upon us by an unprofessional organisation who are obviously having serious difficulties at present.

Please be aware that this is in no way financially linked, we had just paid last month's bill on time, as always. FireFly remains financially sound and are looking forward to increasing our capacity next week.

Thankfully, the forced departure of 08089909019/08089909889 sees the last of our indirect port agreements with all current and future dealings being direct with the telcos.

I would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause any of our customers but we are doing everything in our power to ensure that this problem is contained to the weekend, we thought it better if we were open and honest with our customer and let them know the situation as soon as we knew.

Please do not log support issues concerning connectivity issues over the weekend, they will be connected to the above and be resolved on Monday at the latest.
