The governments Office of National Statistics (ONS) has issued its latest Internet stats update, which shows that 12 million UK homes are now online. Unfortunately 44% of users said they get too much SPAM (junk e-mail) and 28% had received a computer virus in the past 12 months:
The Expenditure and Food Survey of 1,700 households found 48% had access to the internet at home between April and June. This represents a rise of 1% on last year but is up from 9% in 1998.
Home is by far the most likely place where users log-on to the internet, according to an Omnibus Survey of 1,800 individuals carried out in July. Some 83% of respondents said they access to the net at home, compared to 43% at work, and 25% in another person's home.
Among those who said they bought goods and services on the internet, 59% said they used it for travel and accommodation, 39% for ticket for events, and 38% for books and magazines.The above is quoted from
