GXN's New Anti-SPAM/Virus Solution

Posted: 13th Oct, 2003 By: MarkJ
GX Network's, fresh from gobbling up Pipex last week, has today revealed another business security option with the launch of its new anti-spam and anti-virus solution, MailDefender:

GX Networks secures businesses with its strengthened security offering

GX Networks, the telecom network operator and provider of business broadband solutions, has strengthened its security portfolio with the launch of its anti-spam and anti-virus solution, MailDefender and the introduction of its vulnerability scanning and third party penetration testing services.

Incorporating a heuristic scanner, and the renowned Sophos engine, MailDefender anti-virus solution is specifically designed to stop email-borne viruses. Unlike traditional anti-virus software that updates weekly or daily, MailDefender automatically checks for updates from Sophos every five minutes. As it sits on the Internet, rather than on an organisation's hardware, the constant updating does not affect a computer network's processing speed.

Scanning inbound and outbound emails for both potential and known viruses, MailDefender anti-virus blocks all infected and suspect email. Once it has quarantined the suspected emails away from an organisation's network, thus reducing any further risk of infection, it notifies the sender and recipient of inbound emails. With outbound emails, the sender is notified only, avoiding unnecessary contact with a potential recipient.

MailDefender anti-spam is a solution designed to reduce the amount of junk emails received by a company. Rather than using a blanket approach that many less sophisticated anti-spam services use, MailDefender configures itself automatically to an organisation's individual needs. This reduces the amount of genuine emails that are incorrectly classified as spam.

GX Networks' vulnerability scanning solution is an automated tool that carries out regular 'port scans' checking for weaknesses and unprotected computer networks across a business. Third party penetration testing goes one step further and combines automated scans with intuitive hacking and social engineering. A technical specialist is tasked with trying to break into a business' network. He/she will use a variety of methods to do this - including calling the organisation and asking for passwords or guessing passwords based on a user's personal details such as their date of birth. If the specialist comes up against a firewall block he/she simply alters their hacking methods.

In addition, GX Networks offers both preventative products such as firewalls and anti-virus and enabling products such as Virtual Private Networks. GX Networks is working with industry leaders such as Vigilante and Securetest to provide vulnerability scanning and third party penetration testing.
