Despite reading some truly horrendous reviews I took the leap based on a friend of mine never having any complaints with their service.

And with the 14 day testing period, I thought I'd be safe.

Fortunately both the modem and service have been incredibly reliable to my hood in London. There has only been one period when the speed went crazy but that was within the first week. Since then everything has been running incredibly smoothly.

Have had a couple of billing issues but those were handled with efficiency but not speed via the forums as I refused to give their phone centre a call because they were unintelligible in the set up process.

However, I am now forced to strongly consider moving as four months in I have been notified of a substantial price increase of £3.49. Too much, too early.

It's difficult to judge which ISP to go with as so many companies only seem to have negative reviews as did Virgin but I wished to put my five cents out there that if it wasn't for the price hike, I'd happily remain.

Title: Not happy
I have never managed to log into my account and never needed to until they sold me a chip for a mobile phone. I don't know how many phone calls I made the day I bought it but it seemed to take forever mainly because I couldn't speak Urdu.

The only reason I agreed to buy it was because the snakelsman promised to reset my password for me and because I had an iphone that would work with a small sim card.

They sent me the wrong sized sim card and I lost interest in them; that week I looked at moving to another supplier. This week they emailed me to tell me that I start paying for the sim card in October. I am not going to.

I am going to write to them to close the account and if I don't have to give them notice; leave when the next bill is due: 12 October.

I have been with them a few years and never really had difficulties but what difficulties can I have with cable?

My bill is £27.75 plus £1.50 for the piece of paper they send me. How much are stamps these days?

I went to sign into my account:

Welcome to Your Account
Log into your mobile account

Forgotten your email address and password?

Not a problem. Please tell us:

Your Virgin Mobile number

Last name

Postcode

If you can't spot the problem with that, there is still the difficulty of getting my speed test. I don't know why it hasn't opened yet. maybe its this website's fault:
http://www.ispreview.co.uk/speed/
so I tried:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

Once I allowed NoScript it started:

I am not sure if 1 or 10 is a high rating so I am assuming it is 10; thus for:

Email I give it minus 10
Response to problems minus 10

I left these blank because it doesn't even allow zero, never mind below zero!

Speed connection plus ten which is what I wanted it for: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/1474911525156782955-mini.png

Price plus 10 cheapest around which is why I chose it.

Please Correct these fields

Under duress I have to give it a positive number for not allowing me an email, giving me the runniest runaround I have ever had on their help page (and I was with talk talk when they kidnapped me from AOL and dumped all my e-mails.)

Edited to correct spelling and the final score. This website forced me to give Virgin Media 22 stars instead of the 0 stars it deserves (-10 + -10) + (10 + 10) /2 = ?

Also I never mentioned how the sales-force fob you off when you go to their shop/stall in desperation.

I am not saying Virgin don't serve a very satisfactory purpose to a lot of households in the UK, especially those with multiple users who use bandwidth heavy applications.

However for Gaming, my experience is utterly disastrous!

Unstable line (I am not subject to Traffic Management BTW), slow upload speeds and ridiculously high ping/jitter.

Makes gaming on FPS's pointless unless you like the ol "ghost bullets".

Virgin media - worst service. Broadbrand in my area London SW14 has not been working for over 3 weeks, each time I need to use the internet I have to call Virgin and ask them to send a signal to my router (this happens daily) . Also TV service has also been affected. Last night tv stopped recording after 7 mins on a series link. Help desk says someone will call you in 48hrs. (they don't) Virgin may say they have superfast broadband BUT IT DOES NOT WORK ! False advertising.

If you live in an area with good service, it's fantastic. The speed will be largely as is advertised the majority of the time and you'll probably be very happy with the service.

Value isn't great unfortunately as the price does keep rising. When I first signed up back in 2011, I was paying £25/mo. Granted, the speed they're giving me now has increased since then (though I haven't technically upgraded plan) but I'm now paying around £46 a month for my service. Well beyond inflation.

Unfortunately, at least in my experience, the speed often drops and the pings can reach levels where the service is downright unusable frequently. This might get resolved, but Virgin Media will only take action when it reaches a certain threshold (i.e. when the service has truly become unusable). Still, they will eventually act, and when the service works it's generally quite good.

With that said, for the most part, I was happy with them until recently where I had the fun of experiencing the service going down. Now, I have had the internet with them go down before - it's to be expected with any company. Things break, and it can take time to fix them.

The reason I'm so frustrated is because the service had gone down completely in the most recent incident (which is still ongoing), for over a week, and with the earliest possible fix date still a week away.

Now, that in and of itself wouldn't earn such a low score from myself, but what really pushed me over the edge was when I tried, repeatedly, to contact their support via phone, Twitter and their forums, and got completely useless responses.

Nobody seemed to know what (if any) action was being taken to fix the service. Nobody seemed to know when it was likely to be fixed. They offered to book an engineer a week in advance but as the issue isn't with the equipment they've supplied or with the line into my house I'm not convinced it'd do any good.

There was nothing they could do to move the engineer date closer which is worrying when the connection had already been down for over a week.

There are certainly worse ISPs with Virgin Media, and for many people their service is worthwhile, but the poor quality support makes it really difficult to recommend them as once you encounter an issue with them (which you may well do at some point) it seems unlikely that it'll get resolved in a timely manner. If you don't believe me, just take a read of their forums. Many users report issues, to find that the fix dates are constantly pushed back.

It's frustrating.

Title: virgin

No service for the last 40 hours. Yesterday, they said they would fix it by end of day. This morning they said they would fix it in the afternoon. Now (5pm) they say tonight.

In the past: pretty reliable. Speeds as advertised in daytime, at night sometimes OK but sometimes slow. Old router had interference problems, new router is better. Troubleshooting and service: not bad up to now. But now...

Great for broadband speed and reliability, but since leaving the Google servers for email, their email has turned to Spam Central.

I have been with virgin media for about 7 years. anytime i had any problems it was resolved very quickly. About a year ago my broadband stopped working and i rung tech support and they had an engineer out first thing the next morning a saturday i might add and fixed the problem there and then. They also noticed that the signal as a bit out of spec and also booked in a re-pull for a few days later.
