I have recently had yet another terrible experience with BT (who hasn't?) but after successfully managing to get out of their 2 year tie in with no further costs, I researched on here and TTB and decided to take the plunge with XLN.
I live in a rural area, 6.3km line length from the Local Exchange (which has fibre, apparently) but the chance of getting FTTC where I live, well, I have more chance of winning the lottery.
BT Promised 21cn connection.......... yeh right! So anyway XLN here we come. Our connection speed varied between 0.5 and 0.75 with BT but experience told us that a massive 1 meg was possible, but BT would not do anything about this. despite hours of telephone calls and pleading, so when I contacted XLN from a website review to explain to them, they explained that from what they could see, the line profile was 1.2, so we should get roughly that, or somewhere near it anyway. So I signed up with them.
I HAVE TO SAY, they are a breath of fresh air. Went live last Friday, and after a little messing around for first 48 hours, now got a steady 1.1 meg connection. Hey its really great. They have done exactly what they said they would...its does what they said it does, and it costs what they said it costs, £3.55 per month plus VAT. How brilliant is that. If they can sort ours out for that price, would recommend to anyone. Its a basic "lines only" service, but support is great also.
I would try mobile broadband but guess what, we live in a black hole. 2g is possible, and 3g very patchy. 4g, what's that?
So hopefully we can stay online uninterrupted......thanks to XLN
