I'm a technical user (software engineer), and I am using my own router (N100 minipc running proxmox with opnsense) and wifi (Ubiquity Unifi 7 Pro). I use quad9 (ipv4 & ipv6) for DNS. I have the 900/110 service though my area goes up to 1600. Would wish more upload, but that's an openreach limitation (my only provider at property)
Reliability - Excellent, effectively never drops. Never ever slows down
Latency - very good at ~4ms to London from South Coast. More importantly excellent PEERING inside the uk to other services (more so than some smaller ISPs who rely more on transit).
IPv6 works perfectly with a /56 prefix (dynamic)
There is no option of static IPv4, though CGNAT is not in use.
my previous isp grew, consolidated, and then did network updates, adding cgnat ,latency, and all with increasing outages & regular small glitches. (absolutely no glitches with EE)
Price is middle of the road. The in-contract price rises are annoying, and I don't like their approach to renewals. That may force a change.
the actual network EE offers is top notch (and in mobile they are also the best IMO) with many issues relating more to the router, customer service, and the inevitable huge and less skilled customer base.
Time With Provider: 7 Months
