UK ISP Be Broadband has teamed up with an interactive design agency based in Manchester, magneticNorth, to launch an interactive First Person Shooter (FPS) game to help promote their broadband service. The casual game, called '
Unreal Call of Brothers 5: the Road to Broadband Heaven', is a parody of classic FPS titles, including tongue-in-cheek references to popular games.
Players of the game become part of an elite, genetically different Special Forces team. They must eliminate the enemy in 3 hostile locations to reach
Broadband Heaven. Players also have to beware ‘
broadband lag’ and shoot Be '
ping power ups' to up their connection speed. By eliminating enemies, players can earn points, accuracy bonuses and progress to Broadband Heaven.
Visitors to the site will also have the chance to join Be and save up to £64.50 if they sign up before 31st May. There is also a competition to win an Alienware Area-51 X-58 gaming PC, which comes with the latest Intel processors onboard.
The game itself isn't a true web-based FPS game like QuakeLive or the forthcoming Battlefield Heroes, it's merely a comic FLASH game parody of the genre and done in 2D rather than 3D. Mind you, that didn't stop us losing a few minutes of the day to playing it and doing quite well :smirk: .
