ISP Tiscali UK has reported its latest set of quarterly results to 31st March 2009 (Q1), which shows a continued decline in broadband (ADSL) subscribers from 1.768m in Q4-2008 to 1.7m at the end of Q1-2009. This is a more significant reduction than the minor decline of -6,000 seen between Q3 and Q4 of last year, though between Q2 and Q3 of 2008 they lost -64,000.
The news comes just over one week after Tiscali sold its UK business to The Carphone Warehouse ( TalkTalk , AOL UK , Opal etc. ) for an Enterprise Value of £255.5m (including about £20m related to certain working capital debts). These results have been released prior to that mergers completion and reflect Tiscali as a separate business.
It's understood that Tiscali hopes to complete the sale of its UK business sometime next month. Presently the ARPU of access and voice services in the UK stands at £22 per month, a slight decline compared to the £21 seen in Q1-2008. This is apparently down to heightened competitive pressure and the negative impact of the EUR-GBP exchange rate.
