Today is officially known as Silver Surfers Day. The event is organised by Digital Unite - in partnership with Ofcom and UK online centre’s, and aims to help encourage older people across the UK to try out computers and use the Internet. Ofcom's own research found that less than 40% of people over 65 have the Internet at home - dropping down to 22% among the over 75s.
More than 750 events will be taking place across the UK today, from venues as diverse as a Sainsbury's supermarket in Folkestone to a Community Centre in the Scilly Isles.
