A new survey of 1160 participants by price comparison site
Broadband Genie, which was carried out during Q2 2009, has revealed that only 11% of respondents thought their Mobile Broadband service was fast enough, while the majority (740) said "
No" and 287 didn't know.
The outcome is far from unexpected, with many Mobile Broadband operators still promotion the service alongside almost unmatchable performance and coverage claims. In reality the service quality is often overlooked, leaving many customers to suffer a slow connection, assuming it stays connected in the first place.
Part of the issue has to do with a lack of capacity, while others stem from limited coverage. However the biggest issue is probably the technology itself - HSPA . This is a vast improvement over previous generations but only future LTE or WiMAX really have the design to cope with what Mobile Broadband so often aspires to be in its adverts.
Mind you, that assumes the operators will have any cash left to back up that ambition via enough capacity and more flexible services.
