BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) has released its latest set of quarterly results to 30th June 2009. The groups broadband service saw another decline in quarterly uptake by adding +118,000 new customers to its service, which compares with +130,000 in Q1-2009 and +163,000 for Q4-2008.
This growth has helped to take their total broadband base from 2,085,000 in Q1 to 2,203,000 now; representing a 23% penetration of Sky's overall customer base. They also added 155,000 Sky Talk customers to reach 1.9 million; and 244,000 line-rental customers to reach over 900,000 customers.
Jeremy Darroch, Chief Executive, said:
"We remain the UK’s fastest growing provider of broadband and home phone services. Almost one in six customers are choosing to take Sky for TV, broadband and talk and there is plenty of opportunity for further growth ahead. At the same time we have taken action to deliver improved returns on our investment."
Presently Sky hopes that its increased uptake, combined with the migration of more customers on to its comparatively cost effective fully unbundled ( LLU ) broadband platform, will deliver lower broadband and telephony losses in the 2009/10 financial year and a move into profit thereafter.
Meanwhile 16% of customers now take all three of Sky's TV, broadband and telephony services (triple play), which is up from 11% at 30th June 2008.
