Avonline has cut the hardware, activation and installation fee of its 'up to' 3.6Mbps (384Kbps upload) Eutelsat based Tooway satellite broadband service by £100, which brings the new starting cost to £599. Service rental prices remain the same and start at £29.99 per month, including a 2.4GB (GigaByte) monthly data usage allowance.
Prices go up to £99 per month for a package that includes 12GB of monthly usage (same speeds as the default option), which is still frustratingly far too expensive for most rural consumers but remains very cheap by satellite standards. The installation consists of a small satellite dish and a modem connected to the PC via Ethernet.
Craig Roberts, Avonline's Broadband Services manager, said:
"I am really excited about our new pricing offer. Avonline has been working hard to bring reliable satellite broadband access to thousands of customers located in rural locations and not spots or with a slow or unreliable ADSL service. Delivering an affordable rural broadband solution is just the start of our plans for broadband satellite over the next year and we expect to expand our range of broadband satellite services and packages over the next few months".
It's noted that the Tooway service, which we first detailed back in April (
original news), has the ability to deliver voice over satellite telephony services ( VoIP ) and now has the option of receiving Freesat High Definition digital television services from the same satellite dish.
