ISP PlusNet ( BT ) has reduced the length of its broadband service contracts from 18 to 12 months. The cancellation policy has also been amended; customers will now only be charged the cost of setting up their account, or for any hardware they have taken if they leave within 12 months of joining, rather than for the outstanding subscription that they owe.
Previously PlusNet had 18-month contracts for its
Value and
Unlimited broadband products, which meant that if customers left before the contract ended, they would have been liable to pay an early termination charge which was calculated as any outstanding subscription charges until the contract end date.
Anthony Vollmer, CEO of Plusnet, said:
“Moving to shorter commitment periods allows customers so much more flexibility. We want our customers to stay with us because they love our phone and broadband products, not because we have tied them into lengthy contracts”
Plusnet’s HomePhone product, which offers included evening and weekend local, national calls to customers as well as 300 minutes of international calls, remain contract free. Customers can also choose to pay for set-up and hardware up front if they want the flexibility to leave without notice.
