The latest study from Ofcom has just revealed that 35% of 12-15 year olds and 16% of 8-11's now have broadband Internet access in their bedrooms, which is an increase of 20% and 9% respectively over 2007. Worryingly for parents 60% of 12-15's and one third of 8-11's say they use the Internet mostly on their own.
One in five of 5-7s also say they use the Internet without an adult in the room. Nearly half of parents whose children use the Internet at home say they have Internet controls or filtering software in place, yet more than 1 in 10 parents didn't even know such controls were possible.
Elsewhere the incidence of watching television or film content via UK television broadcasters websites (e.g. BBC iPlayer , Sky Player, ITV Player etc.) increases with age, with this activity undertaken by one in twenty 5-7s (5%), one in eight 8-11s (13%) and one quarter of 12-15s (25%). The full report can be read
HERE (.PDF) and suggests that future generations will be even bigger online content hogs than the adults of today.
