Broadband and Website Hosting ISP Namesco UK has reiterated its support for the
Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a charitable organisation that works with UK ISPs to help filter out illegal child abuse and race hate content from the Internet. The news comes on the IWF's official Internet Awareness Day.
One of the IWF's initiatives is to help ISPs to combat abuse of their networks through their national ‘
notice and take-down’ service. This service alerts ISP and Hosting providers to potentially illegal content within their remit and provides data to law enforcement partners in the UK and abroad to assist in any related investigations.
A Namesco spokesperson said:
"As members of the Industry we feel that it is our responsibility to support the protection against this type of activity and actively make a real difference in today’s society where such issues can be of primary concern to many of our customers. These concerns are prominent within the hosting industry, supporting such causes and our customers needs is a key commitment for us."
According to IWF, as a result of this partnership approach, less than 1% of child sexual abuse content known to them has apparently been hosted in the UK since 2003, down from 18% in 1997.
