UK ISP Nildram ( Tiscali ) has recently increased their advertised headline broadband package speeds from ‘up to’ 16Mbps to 24Mbps. However customers will not see any improvement in their connection speeds as the same ADSL2+ technology remains in place. The move is purely one for marketing purposes.
Nildram states:
"When we launched our ADSL2+ service we decided to take a conservative approach to marketing service speed. However, many customers are enjoying speeds greater than the previously marketed speed of up to 16Mb so we now feel confident in marketing the service as up to 24Mb speed.
There is no need to regrade as there is no change to the service supplied and if you have subscribed to any of these services you will continue to receive the fastest speed your line can support."
The decision to market their original products as 'up to' 16Mbps was very commendable as it is a more realistic approach. It's a shame that has to change.
