Cerberus Networks (CN) has launched what it claims is the UK's first bonded ADSL2+ broadband service – offering up to 48Mbps downstream and 5Mbps upstream with unlimited usage and low contention. The service states that its product offers true bonding – not the aggregation or load-balancing seen to date from other providers.
Rival providers do offer similar services, though many of those are not true network-level bonded ADSL2+ business broadband solutions like the one above. The Cerberus X2 product is an unbundled ( LLU ) package that essentially bonds 2 standard ADSL2+ (up to 24Mbps) telephone lines together for nearly double the maximum speed.
Bob Hendy, Director at Cerberus Networks said:
"We are really pleased to announce the UK’s first bonded ADSL2+ service. We’ve heard a lot about bonding from other providers recently but customers end up disappointed when they realise they’ve been sold something that is really just load-balancing. Our new bonded service fits between DSL services and more expensive leased lines, giving resellers new opportunities to win business and drive down costs.
Cerberus X2 gives us new options for remote access, telephony, hosting and video applications and we can see enormous potential for customers to reduce costs while deploying additional network services. X2 is a key part of our drive to provide high performance, high availability business Internet services whilst reducing complexity."
The service is available to pre-order now, with connections due to start going live in November 2009. It also takes advantage of the recently launched NetSTATS bandwidth statistics and email alerting service to provide detailed usage information.
We note that the Cerberus X2 bonded ADSL2+ service has no restrictive contention or usage allowances. However bonding 2 telephone lines together can be costly and CN states that its new service will have a price point lower than that of a typical 2Mbps SDSL service (i.e. usually around £200 per month).
