UK ISP Be Broadband has revamped its up to 8Mbps budget BE Value package by reducing the price from £13.50 inc. VAT per month to just £7.50 as standard; this follows the success of its recent "
half price" promotion. In addition the package now offers a 40GB (GigaByte) monthly download allowance instead of its old "
unlimited" one.
Otherwise the package remains almost identical to the old one with upload speeds of 1.3Mbps, a 12 month minimum contract term, free ADSL2+ wireless router modem, free 24/7 support and of course a free connection.
Tom Williams, Head of Operations at BE, said:
"The trends we’re seeing are for no traffic management allowing more freedom and of course lower prices. Our members demand the freedom to prioritise and think for themselves, not have their broadband provider do it for them. We believe there a lot of customers that will leap at the chance to get a service that doesn’t slow down based on the content of their downloads but don’t use the internet enough to justify an unlimited product."
BE remains somewhat of a rarity among even many unbundled providers because it's not only cheap but also offers good performance and a reasonably strong quality of customer support. Still, some might be concerned that BE's latest price could be a little too cheap to support. It's also unclear whether existing customers will gain the new price, though we suspect they'll have to wait for an end to their existing contract.
