Dorset County Council is hoping to use the 2012 Olympic Games, which will see key sailing events being held in Weymouth and Portland (National Sailing Academy), to leapfrog other parts of the country by getting superfast next generation broadband services deployed sooner.

Hi-Speed Digital Dorset survey
BT is a Tier 1 Sponsor of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Part of its obligation involves the installation of a high capacity broadband connection to Portland to cope with the media and organisational requirements of the sailing events.
This activity in Dorset provides a unique opportunity to fast-track high quality broadband provision in the local area and the potential to develop this across wider Dorset. In some places in the UK and Europe, connectivity speeds in excess of 100Mbps are readily available with all the advantages this brings to businesses and communities.
To achieve this acceleration and its associated economic development advantage, the potential demand from the totality of the public sector, the private sector and the resident community needs to be assessed and realised in order to create the evidence of demand for broadband services. We would like to gain your views and with your participation in this online survey we believe it is possible to bring these advantages to Dorset.
Local businesses and residents are consequently being asked to
TAKE PART IN A SURVEY that will help the council to assess demand for improved broadband services in the county and related Olympic event regions.
