Mobile operator Vodafone UK has re-launched its
Access Gateway device, which uses Femtocell (Access Point Base Station) technology to help extend the indoor coverage and reception of its 3G voice and Mobile Broadband service, as the
Sure Signal; it’s even reduced the price too.
Vodafone Sure Signal now costs just £50 (one-off) for customers spending £25 or more on a pay monthly price plan; for all other customers, it costs £120 (or £5 per month if you prefer to pay that way). The Sure Signal uses your home broadband connection to link with Vodafone's network, boosting 3G signal strength throughout the house.
It's a good idea but one with limited consumer appeal, after all if you have a fixed line broadband connection at home (minimum speed of 1Mbps required) then what would be the point of using it to boost your 3G Mobile Broadband signal when you could probably enable Wi-Fi at less cost? It’s more useful for business environments or to assist in making mobile calls within low coverage areas.
