The UK district of South Derbyshire, which has long suffered from poor Internet connection speeds, could be in line for some much needed improvements to its broadband infrastructure. Councillors have recently become more positive after one of BT's senior directors promised to visit and answer questions.
Councillor Amy Plenderleith told the Burton Mail:"They have never agreed to do this before so it’s a real coup for us and we’re really pleased about it. At least now we will be able to estimate how much it might cost to upgrade the network.
[The Council was] very disappointed with the previous presentations we had from BT as we felt they didn’t seem hugely interested and didn’t have any specific information on South Derbyshire."
It's understood that BT will carry out a survey of the Etwall telephone exchange, which serves Hilton. The operator will also provide further details and hopefully be able to offer some possible solutions, though we suspect that some degree of fund raising or public/private partnership (PPP) will be required to pay for any improvements.
