Kent-based
VFast, a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) ISP, informs that the quiet rural village of Barham near Canterbury in Kent has now been enabled with a superfast up to 25Mbps broadband connection. The service is delivered from a Central Fibre installed by VFast, thanks to funding obtained from Kent County Council, with the last mile being distributed via a WiMAX wireless broadband link.
Barham is a village and civil parish in the City of Canterbury district of Kent, England. It is situated close to the A2 road between Canterbury and Dover, 7 miles south-east of Canterbury and 7 miles north of Folkestone. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 1,187.
Rebecca Brown, MD of VFast, commented to ISPreview:
"We are very happy to be able to deliver this solution to the Parish of Barham, customers can now enjoy superfast broadband at speeds unheard of in rural areas, and in fact many people in urban areas struggle to see such speeds. The KCC funding has enabled us to upgrade the current VFast network in Barham which serves around 170 residential subscribers."
It's understood that the WiMAX class equipment is capable of delivering speeds of 100Mbps to end users when demand increases  . VFast now operates a network covering some 1,000 square miles.
