Internet and phone provider TalkTalk ( AOL UK , Tiscali , Opal ) has posted a new Trading Statement to reveal its latest fourth quarter 2009 results. The operator ended last year with their total broadband subscriber base rising from 4.155m in Q3-2009 to 4.197m in Q4 (+42k net additions, up on Q3's +36k).
Presently 3.11m of TalkTalk's customers (74% of their broadband base) are using the groups cheaper unbundled ( LLU ) platform, which is delivered via 1,748 unbundled exchanges (80% UK coverage). TalkTalk recently announced plans to boost the capacity of its LLU ISP network and extend coverage to reach nearly 90% of the UK over the next year (

Charles Dunstone, commented:
"Last year was transformational for TalkTalk. In July we completed the acquisition of Tiscali, to create the largest provider of unbundled broadband and voice services in the UK, with a 23% share of the broadband market. Just before the end of the year we completed our demerger from Carphone Warehouse plc, to become a separately listed, standalone telecoms company.
This year we will focus on two main priorities for the business: maintaining our momentum in the broadband market through continuing to grow TalkTalk’s broadband base and ARPU; and completing our “one company” integration programme, migrating customers onto our expanded network footprint and onto core customer management and billing systems."
Meanwhile TalkTalk still hopes to have more than 80% of its customers on their unbundled network by the end of the current calendar year. In addition they also added some more information about tentative plans to launch a mobile phone and TV service, which would turn them into a quad-play provider.
New services
We are on track to trial our MVNO during the first half of the year, extending TalkTalk’s value for money proposition into mobile voice and data services, bundled with our fixed line products. We are continuing to explore super-fast Next Generation Access broadband opportunities, working with BT Openreach and other infrastructure developers. Our TV strategy, based on our participation as a partner in Project Canvas, remains on track for commercial launch in 2011.
The TV product will be based off Project Canvas, an open broadband IPTV standard for set-top-boxes, which is due to be finalised soon. Little is known about their plans to launch a mobile phone service, although by the sounds of it we should get plenty of detail in the summer.
