BT and BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) have today signed a new wholesale contract for the supply of Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2. The broadband based BT Vision TV ( IPTV ) service will now be able to offer these popular TV channels to subscribers from 1st August (signup's will be taken from early July).
Gavin Patterson, Chief Executive of BT Retail, said:
"We are delighted to have reached this milestone, which means that we can be certain of offering Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 to our customers before the football season kicks off. We know our customers will be keen to sign up for the two channels."
BT has not revealed how much extra the premium channels will cost, which will be revealed "
shortly". The deal should help to increase the otherwise below-target uptake of BT's IPTV product and provide a more plausible alternative to adopting Sky itself.
