Earlier this year ISP
Vtesse Networks UK, a national provider of fibre optic networking services, identified several
Hertfordshire communities that they could reach with superfast broadband internet services (
here). The new network has now been delivered to the leafy villages of
Birch Green and
Hertingfordbury.
Vtesse Statement
July 1st marks an important day for the residents of leafy Birch Green [and Hertingfordbury] in Hertfordshire. Condemned for so long to mega slow broadband speeds and patchy availability, residents in this leafy Hertfordshire community will be able to enjoy super-fast, super reliable broadband, thanks to the installation by Vtesse Broadband of broadband equipment in the heart of the village.
Connected by fibre optic network directly to the heart of the internet, the service will create new opportunities for all who choose to take part.
Two other villages, Bramfield and Stapleford, have also been targeted and could follow by the end of this summer. Vtesse also has pilots in Cornwall and Wiltshire, including a wireless broadband trial in Hertford's town centre.
Commenting on the news, Oliver Heald, Member of Parliament for North East Hertfordshire, said:
"I welcome the news that Vtesse Broadband is piloting super-fast broadband in the County via its fibre optic network to provide fast and reliable service in broadband poor-spots at Birch Green and Hertingfordbury. These are places some distance from their local telephone exchange and residents and homeworkers in those areas have endured the irritation of slow download speeds for too long. Action to improve speeds is good news."
In Hertford at least, mobile internet users within Vtesse's service zones connect through the ISPs wireless ( Wi-Fi ) Hotspots directly onto their national fibre optic network (Fi-Wi). The service can offer speeds of up to 40Mbps. The scope of Vtesse Broadband's ambition for further deployment is significant, with targets of 500,000 homes openly discussed by Chief Executive Aidan Paul.
Vtesse has also complimented the news by announcing a new scheme for communities who feel unfairly excluded from superfast broadband. Remote and rural communities who have broadband problems in their area are encouraged to register their interest below.
