As required by section 1 of the controversial
Digital Economy Act 2010 (DEA), Ofcom has to produce a report for the UK Government every 3 years giving a clear picture of the state of the country's landline, broadband, mobile and broadcast networks and services. Today the regulator revealed that its first report will focus on landline and Mobile Broadband coverage.
The regulators
UK Communications Infrastructure Report will, among other things, look at the roll-out of "
super-fast" broadband services and help identify areas where more investment may be needed.
It will also cover the level of network infrastructure sharing and wholesale arrangements between communication providers, as well as comparing the standards of UK networks and services with other countries. The consultation will run until 30th September 2010.
