Broadband.co.uk has released its latest anecdotal monthly broadband speed testing results for July 2010, which has seen the average download speed rise from 4.957Mbps in June to 5.106Mbps this month. By comparison Ofcom reported that its average in May 2010 had been calculated as 5.2Mbps (
here), Akamai claimed it was more like 3.8Mbps (
here) and Ookla preferred 7.71Mbps (
here).
Cable giant Virgin Media UK is once again top with a best broadband download speed of over 10Mbps (10.041Mbps)! O2 ( Be Broadband ) remains in 2nd place but did gain a slight amount of speed since June to average 5.748Mbps, it continues to be the fastest of the big consumer DSL ( ADSL , ADSL2+ ) providers.

The overall average UK upload speed performance also saw a slight rise, increasing from 0.508Mbps in June to 0.521Mbps in July. O2 ( Be Broadband ) will need to watch their backs as Virgin Media are slowly creeping up behind.
