Broadband.co.uk has released its latest anecdotal monthly consumer broadband ISP speed testing results for the past month of July 2011, which saw the
average UK internet download speed surge from 6.690Mbps in June to
8.313Mbps now! The
average upload speed also jumped from 1.030Mbps to hit
1.220Mbps during the same period.
Several ISPs take most of the credit for July's surge with both BT and PlusNet showing clear improvements. But cable operator Virgin Media once again stole the show by recording a simply colossal average download speed of
17.398Mbps, well above June's 11.147Mbps.

Clearly the superfast BT-Infinity product, which offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps using FTTC technology, is now beginning to have an impact despite only accounting for about 200,000 of BT's near 6 Million consumer broadband customers. It's possible that PlusNet's new FTTC packages are having a similar impact, though this would be surprising given their recent launch.
