YouView (Project Canvas), a subscription free broadband internet based video-on-demand and catch-up television ( IPTV ) service that is expected to be used by several major ISPs (e.g. BT , TalkTalk etc.), has confirmed that it is still very much "on track to launch in early 2012".

The Joint Venture project between the BBC, ITV, BT, Channel 4, TalkTalk, Arqiva and Channel 5 also announced the appointment of Chris Bramley as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Bramley has previously held the position of Chief Architect at BSkyB.

The news follows shortly after a new Digital TV Research study (here) claimed that less than 1 million UK homes will pay for IPTV services by 2016, which will keep related revenues low (£137m). This suggests that DTVR is not expecting YouView or similar services to have any significant impact upon the market.
