Internet and media giant BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) has released its latest set of quarterly results to 30th September (Q3-2011) and revealed that their steady growth has continued to reach a new total of
3,485,000 broadband subscribers (up by +150,000 from Q2). By contrast Sky added +174,000 in Q2-2011 and +155,000 in Q1.
Generally speaking Sky's third quarter managed to deliver
strong overall performance. The operator increased its customer numbers right across the board and
grew revenue by 9% to £1.66 billion, not to mention annual ARPU of £535. Some 2.9 million of their customers now take a
triple-play service bundle of broadband, TV and telephony (up 29% year on year).
During the quarter Sky also
expanded its network footprint by unbundling ( LLU ) another
155 telephone exchanges from BT to support its existing broadband ISP and telephone services. Some 54% of Sky's customers are now using their LLU platform.
Sky intends to extend their LLU coverage further this year by unbundling another 200 exchanges, which will increase their exchange footprint beyond the current level of 81%. Meanwhile Sky is still progressing with their technical integration of The Cloud (Wi-Fi Hotspot operator), ahead of launching a new service "
later this fiscal year". Sadly Sky includes no update on the status of its superfast broadband ambitions.
