Business ISP
Griffin Internet, a UK channel supplier of managed internet services, has this week completed a
major upgrade of their core network and thus increased their platforms capacity "
by over 1000%".
The effort itself, which created a
new optical backbone, is understood to have required significant investment. It was deemed necessary in order to support the ISPs
rising demand for Ethernet services and managed applications.
Adrian Sunderland, Griffin’s CTO, said:
"We undertook an extensive search for a supplier that would meet our planned capacity requirements over the next few years. We compared all viable architectures from a number of vendors before deciding on Transmode. We expect to see a return in our investment within 12 months and are able to use Transmode’s optical networking expertise and training as we go into our next growth phase.
We are pleased to report that the upgrade went very smoothly. Partners were kept informed at every step in the process and disruption was kept to an absolute minimum. This was the biggest network engineering programme we have ever undertaken, completely replacing Griffin’s core network. I am very proud of the way my team planned and implemented the project."
Last month Griffin Internet also won the annual '
ISP of the Year' (supplier) gong at this year's
2011 Comms National Awards (CNA).
