Geo Networks (GEO), a dedicated fibre optic solutions provider, has bounced back from its recent withdrawal from the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) process (
here) by expanding its network through a new
five year deal with wholesale fibre carrier
Surf Telecoms.
The agreement means that Surf Telecoms will help GEO to expand its own fibre route between
Bristol and
Tewkesbury through new interconnections.
Janet, who manages one of the UK's leading education networks and is one of Surf Telecoms key customers, also looks set to benefit.
Chris Smedley, Chief Executive at Geo, said:
"With our private network tracking the gas mains, Surf Telecoms can ensure that its customers benefit from a resilient and secure solution that can deal with high volumes of traffic. Data delivery times will be improved and it will remove the risk of service interruptions often associated with shared platforms, subsequently ensuring customer confidence.
This is the first deal between Geo Networks and Surf Telecoms, but given our ability to support their growing customer base, I am looking forward to developing our relationship with them further."
It's understood that Janet’s key requirement was to link its community of research and education institutions in the South West of England. GEO has promised to help make that happen and as a result Surf Telecoms will initially light a new 10Gbit/s link across the 75km route.
