Supermarket chain Tesco has today confirm that its
free wireless internet access ( Wi-Fi ) service is now available at stores nationwide. The move follows a successful
July 2011 trial at 4 out of its
2,700 branches in the UK (
here).
A related survey found that 82% of Tesco's Extra store customers would definitely use the service again, while everybody claimed to find it "
easy to use". Some 71% of customers accessed the Wi-Fi via a Smartphone, 11% via a tablet and 9% on a Laptop.
Mike McNamara, Tesco's Chief Information Officer, said:
"We’re proud to be the first UK Supermarket to offer nationwide access to free Wi-Fi. People are increasingly using a variety of digital services and we’re excited by our customers’ reaction to the new service."
The Wi-Fi also allows users to access their
Tesco Clubcard account online to check their points and receive e-vouchers. Speaking of which, it's important to note that
only Clubcard holders get unlimited access; everybody else is restricted to just 15 minutes (in any 24 hour period). Telefónica UK ( O2 ) provides the service.
