Entanet Reports High Demand for UK Superfast Broadband FTTC ISP Services

Posted: 15th Dec, 2011 By: MarkJ
entanetCommunications provider Entanet, which also supplies several UK ISPs with broadband services, has reported "higher-than-expected demand" for its FTTC based superfast broadband packages. Indeed they claim that 53% of contracts for their "fibre-based" options are being taken up by new customers, albeit mostly businesses.

The data makes for an interesting contrast with yesterdays report from Ofcom (here), which revealed that just 0.8% of UK households had adopted the BT-based 'up to' 40Mbps (rising to 80Mbps in 2012) Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) service.

Stephen Barclay, Head of Sales at Entanet, said:

"While we strongly advise partners to check connections that are eligible for a re-grade as their first line of potential for FTTC sales, the percentage of new customers taking the services has surprised us."

Entanet launched a range of FTTC services aimed at business and consumers in September 2011 and so far three out of four orders have been for the options aimed at commercial firms. "The gap is bigger than we imagined it would be," added Barclay. Furthermore Entanet predicts that FTTC uptake will accelerate in the New Year as coverage improves.

Apparently the most popular of Entanet’s FTTC range has been the Business 45 offering, which gives customers a monthly usage allowance of 45GB. This has accounted for 59% of all the Business packages sales.

It goes without saying that some of the early FTTC service prices for home users have been a bit on the high side, unless you go with PlusNet or BT direct. Price is often less of a concern for business users where the greater performance and reliability of a superfast connection are usually more important.
