Home phone and broadband ISP TalkTalk has today announced the
poaching appointment of O2's former 'Head Of Direct Trading' for the UK business,
Dan Meader, as their new
Mobile Director. The move is part of the operators wider plans to
boost its existing mobile offerings and bundles later this year.
Tristia Clarke, TalkTalk's Commercial Director, said:
"We’re established as the value player in phone and broadband and we’ve been able to bring those principles to our MVNO partnership with Vodafone.
One year in, we’ve made a good start with a SIM-only offer and we now have the opportunity to offer a range of contracts and handsets at price points that will appeal to TalkTalk customers.
Dan has extensive knowledge and experience of the UK mobile telecoms market. He was with O2 for over nine years where he held a number of senior commercial and finance roles ... prior to O2, he worked for other major telecoms companies including BT and WorldCom."
Since the launch of its first
SIM-only mobile services in 2010, which included a £10 Mobile Broadband (data) product, TalkTalk's mobile packages have managed to attract over 50,000 customers; a
miniscule number in comparison to their 4.1 Million fixed line home broadband subscribers.
TalkTalk will no doubt be hoping that Meader can turn the service around and make it more attractive to both new and existing customers. The first moves to address this will take place during
Spring 2012 with the launch of their handset proposition and several
new contract offers.
