B4RN Project Launch Video Explains Key Issues for UK Rural Broadband Provision

The non-profit Broadband 4 Rural North (B4RN) project, which hopes to connect thousands of homes in northern Lancashire UK with an affordable "hyper-fast" 1Gbps (1000Mbps) capable fibre optic ( FTTH ) broadband internet access service, has this week uploaded an new 35 minute video from its 15th December 2011 launch event (original news).
The somewhat educational presentation does quite an effective job of explaining the problems of broadband provision in rural areas and its many related challenges. In particular the first four minutes are quite informative and well worth watching even if you're not interested in the B4RN project itself.
Those whom have the time to watch further will also be informed about the many different methods of laying fibre optic cable (starts at about 15:55), some of which we didn't know much about (e.g. the method of drilling fibre across rivers). Professor Barry Forde, CEO of B4RN, presented the project.
