BT's controversial Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) product, which allows rival ISPs the ability to access BT's underground cable ducts and telegraph poles for the deployment of their own superfast fibre optic ( FTTP ) broadband networks, has yet to be taken by any UK providers despite being on the market for over 3 months.

The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) has published its full judgement against disgraced lawyer Andrew Crossley (ACS:Law), whom was last month suspended for two years and ordered to pay costs of £76k after his firm used dubious claims of "illegal" internet copyright infringement (piracy) to bully hundreds of thousands of pounds out of often innocent broadband ISP customers in the United Kingdom.

Cable giant Virgin Media is set to expand from a single-cell trial of 4g next generation Mobile Broadband technology in Oxford Street (London) with a much larger trial across several UK cities via the 2.6GHz spectrum band.

The Wireless Broadband Alliance has announced that the first Next Generation Hotspots (NGH), which will make it both easier, quicker and more secure to connect with public Wi-Fi Hotspots, will begin their deployment over the next 12 months.

The Everything Everywhere ( Orange and T-Mobile ) group has today pledged to become the United Kingdom's first mobile provider to launch a new generation of superfast 4g Mobile Broadband services by the end of 2012 (via the 1800MHz band). But they'll need regulatory approval first.

Scottish MSP Dave Thompson has criticised the UK government for not doing enough to ensure that 98% of Scotland will be able to receive a superfast 4g Mobile Broadband service. He also blasted the "ridiculously expensive" fibre optic (FTTH) and Satellite alternatives.

First Great Western, a UK rail operator, has announced that 23 of its stations will be upgraded in March 2012 to off a free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) service to commuters.

Internet provider PlusNet UK has, alongside the Centre for Future Studies, released a new report today that attempts to predict what our lives and homes will be like in the year 2027. Unfortunately some of its predictions, such as how "the internet will become ubiquitous", have more or less already happened.

A new study has revealed that the UK average broadband ISP download speed is now 6.742Mbps (Megabits per second), with Hereford being named as the slowest city (3.196Mbps) and Winchelsea (East Sussex) the slowest village (1.110Mbps).

The latest statistics from Ericsson's interim 'Traffic and Market Data Report' state that global Mobile Broadband subscriptions are close to reaching the 1 Billion mark. The traffic generated by mobile PC users is also said to average around 2GB (GigaBytes) a month.

Allot Communications has released its latest H2 2011 Allot MobileTrends Report, which reveals that global Mobile Broadband internet traffic grew by 83% during the second half of 2011 and is dominated by video streaming traffic (42% of all usage).

The High Court of Justice (London, UK) has today ruled that The Pirate Bay allows internet piracy to take place and does little to stop it. A follow-up ruling in June 2012 will now almost certainly require broadband ISPs to block the P2P site.

Brocade, a networking solutions business, has said that Ofcom's move to delay the auction of its new 4G superfast Mobile Broadband spectrum could be a "blessing in disguise" as it could give operators more time to upgrade the country's "unprepared network infrastructure".
