The Cloud, a BSkyB owned Wi-Fi Hotspot operator, has expanded its deal with UK rail operator
First Great Western (FGW) to make
free wireless internet services available at 23 stations across the country.
At present 10 of FGW's stations are already operating a Wi-Fi service (included in the total of 23), which is available from station platforms, concourses and in waiting rooms (
full details). A "
revamp" of their existing WiFi installations is also planned.
Robert Jackson, FGW's Station Contracts Manager, said:
"Travellers now expect to be able to access the internet wherever they are, especially to pass the time during their commutes. The popularity of WiFi – as seen in stations with existing connectivity – made the decision to expand and upgrade a very easy one to make.
This deal with The Cloud enhances the WiFi network at those stations and extends it across many other busy stations, improving the service we provide to millions of passengers every year."
The installation at
13 additional stations is planned to begin in
March 2012, although it's not known how long the work itself will take to complete. Credits to Thinkbroadband for picking up on the full list via FGW's website.
