Small ISP Vivaciti has recently revamped its family focused standalone unlimited superfast broadband (FTTC) package – Fibre Unlimited – to include a free activation (this comes with the Openreach VDSL modem and an engineer install).
The package details are a little thin but we do know that the service, which has been based on a solution supplied by the Daisy Group, is only available at the below price with free activation to customers who reside in Market 3 areas (i.e. about 77.6% of UK premises where there’s plenty of competition between ISPs – sadly not rural areas).
Customers in the rest of the UK will not be able to take the free activation offer but the rental price should stay the same, although for these areas the service itself may be delivered via Entanet or a different supplier.
Family Fibre Unlimited
* Download speeds of up to 80Mbps (20Mbps uploads)
* Unlimited usage
* Free activation
* 12 Month contractPRICE: £37.20 inc. VAT a month
In terms of price it’s not going to beat PlusNet’s standalone “unlimited” Fibre package for £19.99 (though you do have to pay a £50 activation on PlusNet) or any of the BT, Sky Broadband or TalkTalk bundles. But it’s nice to see that smaller providers can still do standalone “unlimited” options using BT-based solutions; though the gap between the largest and smallest providers remains worryingly evident.
As a side note it’s worth mentioning that Zen Internet also plans to launch a new “unlimited” service of its own, although it’s not yet clear whether this will only be available to those covered by their new network platform (early details).
