The latest biannual Which? magazine consumer survey of broadband ISP reliability, value, performance and general customer satisfaction has awarded its Recommended Provider status to several UK ISPs and phone providers including Zen Internet and PlusNet.
Several thousand members of Which? were asked to rate their provider based on the quality of its customer service, ease of setup, connection speed, connection reliability, value for money and technical support. The ISPs required an overall customer score of at least 70% in order to be considered for the ‘Recommended Provider’ gong.

As usual Which? ran two separate surveys, including one for phone and broadband providers and another for standalone broadband. In both cases Zen topped the table with an overall customer score of 87% and 85% respectively.
Which Recommended Broadband Providers
1. Zen Internet (85%)
2. BE Broadband (82%)
3. PlusNet (76%)Which Recommended Broadband and Phone Providers
1. Zen Internet (87%)
2. Utility Warehouse (80%)
3. PlusNet (78%)
It’s interesting to contrast these results for broadband providers (excluding phone) with the scores they received during Which?’s July 2012 study (here), which rated Zen at 84%, BE at 72% and PlusNet as 73%.
All of the recommended broadband providers saw a clear increase and surprisingly even BE, which suffered problems last year due to network routing issues (not to mention the recent sale to SKY and lack of FTTC), experienced a dramatic improvement.
Sadly we haven’t yet been able to get our hands on the full summary of all the surveyed providers.
