Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has today revealed that they added a further +2,000 on-net broadband customers to total 4,289,000 during the first three months of 2019 (down sharply from +44k added in the previous quarter). Work on their FibreNation roll-out of “full fibre” (FTTH) broadband is also set to begin this Summer.

Cable ISP Virgin Media has today announced that they have “plans to connect more homes” to their 516Mbps capable ultrafast broadband and TV network in Scotland, provided the Scottish Government and local authorities are able to support them. Sadly they haven’t said how much further they’d go.

A new study from Housesimple, which examined average UK house prices on streets with some of the slowest broadband ISP speeds (under 1Mbps) and then compared prices on those with neighbouring streets within the local area, has claimed that “ultra slow” speeds could knock 24% (average) off the value of a property.

A new 4media survey of 2,002 residents in rural England, which was commission by UK full fibre and wireless ISP County Broadband, has found that 57% were “frustrated” by the poor performance of their internet connection and 43% were “unsure” of the difference between “superfast” (FTTC) and “ultrafast” (FTTP) lines.

The launch of Openreach’s new Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA) product, which enables consumers to buy a standalone UK hybrid fibre broadband (FTTC / VDSL2 or G.fast) ISP line without the voice (phone) service, looks to be imminent as its availability status has recently been added to the BTWholesale checker service.

A new uSwitch survey of 2,000 UK adults, which has been weighted to reflect a nationally representative criteria, claims that 77% of households with people who play online multiplayer video games have experienced problems with their broadband ISP connections (e.g. disconnections, buffering and slowdowns).
