Fixed wireless broadband ISP Solway Communications, which has built its network across parts of Cumbria (England) and recently began deploying some limited Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) infrastructure again, has today become the latest in a long line of internet providers to be acquired by Voneus for an undisclosed sum.

Broadband giant BT has reportedly hired advisory firm Robey Warshaw LLP to work alongside Goldman Sachs, which was appointed for a similar reason last year (here), to help boost their defences against a possible takeover attempt by Patrick Drahi’s Altice UK, which in June 2021 (here) acquired a 12.1% equity stake worth c.£2bn.

Network provider LilaConnect, which is a subsidiary of Swedish operator VXFIBER, has today announced that they’ve officially started to deploy their new “open access” and gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the Staffordshire (England) market town of Uttoxeter.

Openreach (BT) has just published a new update to the UK rollout plan for their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which appears to add around 170 new locations (towns and villages) as part of their £15bn project to cover 25 million premises by December 2026.

A weekend report claims that Liberty Global has hired consultancy firm Accenture PLC to develop plans for the separation of their fixed broadband network assets from their retail ISP products, which is said to be supported by Virgin Media’s merger partner Telefonica (O2) in the United Kingdom.

Customers of Voipfone‘s UK broadband ISP and Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) service have signalled their frustration after the provider was knocked out yet again by a major Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault against their servers, which has been periodically impacting both them and Voip Unlimited since last month.

Following a probe (here), the Competition and Markets Authority has decided to open a formal investigation into Motorola’s dual role within the delivery of the UK Government’s new 4G based Emergency Services Network (ESN) contract, which it fears could result in a “more expensive service for customers and, ultimately, the taxpayer“.

The UK telecommunications regulator, Ofcom, has reportedly taken radical action to curb the plague of scam calls, which it is attempting to achieve by “ordering” major phone operators to automatically block any “suspicious” Voice-over-Internet (VoIP) calls that come from abroad if they pretend to come from numbers in the UK.

Network builder FullFibre Limited has today named the next batch of 19 towns in England to benefit from their rollout of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which recently hit a build rate of 15,000 UK premises per month and aims to cover “at least” 500,000 premises by 2025.
