Openreach (BT) has published a summary of their network traffic for 2022, which among other things reveals the average monthly UK data consumption of broadband users across their network for the past year. For example, the busiest month in 2022 was actually January, when a total of 5,701PB (PetaBytes) passed over their network.
Broadband ISP and mobile operator Virgin Media (VMO2) has today published their usual round-up of customer connectivity habits for 2022, which among other things noted that customers downloaded 9% more broadband data per day than the previous year, with mobile traffic up 36% year-on-year.
Connect and Umlaut have today published their annual UK Mobile Network Test study, which used a range of different benchmarks to test 4G (voice and data / broadband) and 5G service performance across 19 cities, 40 towns and along over 10,000km of major roads. Overall, EE managed to come top again.
Broadband and mobile operators EE (BT) and Vodafone have announced that they’ve extended their 4G network on the London Underground to include six more stations, covering parts of the Central and Northern lines, which reflects a partnership with BAI Communications. This builds on their already live coverage on the eastern half of the Jubilee Line.
Broadband provider BT has issued an update on the national UK rollout of their new Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) based Digital Voice product, which was “paused” in May 2022 (here) following complaints about service outages during power cuts etc. But the ISP now says this is “likely” to restart during the “spring of 2023“.
Broadband ISP Fibrus, which is busy rolling out their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks across parts of both Northern Ireland and the North of England, has revealed that 14 of their vehicles are now electric (EV) and they’ve deployed five rapid chargers at their Dargan site to support that.
