ISPA Reveal the WINNERS of its 2013 UK ISP Internet Industry Awards

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has today unveiled the full winners list from last night’s 15th annual 2013 Internet Industry Awards, which saw the award for ‘Best Superfast Broadband‘ go to London ISP Hyperoptic and the gong for ‘Best Consumer Fixed Broadband‘ being won by Sky Broadband.

The government’s Communications Minister, Ed Vaizey, has confirmed that two thirds of the projects that were initially designed to help deliver superfast broadband (25Mbps+) services to 90% of the United Kingdom by 2015 are now underway and the remaining 15 contracts should be “agreed shortly“.

BT and Dorset UK Sign GBP32m Deal to Expand Fibre Broadband Cover

The Dorset County Council (DCC) in central southern England has today signed a new state-aid supported £31.75 million deal with BT to expand its fibre optic based (FTTC/P) broadband ISP services to cover 97% of the region within the next three and a half years (i.e. late 2017).

UK ISP BT Retail to Launch 300Mbps FTTP Broadband Package

The consumer division of BT has confirmed that it will shortly launch a new BTInfinity 300 ultrafast broadband package using Openreach’s fastest Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) product, which will offer download speeds of up to 300Mbps (20Mbps uploads) from £50 a month.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a website advert for Lycamobile’s various “ALL IN ONE” bundles, which misleadingly claimed to offer “unlimited” mobile broadband data, calls and text messages but later stated a specific limit on the use of such services.

Ofcom has confirmed that they’re considering a “difficult to assess” request by Sky Broadband (BSkyB) for BT to offer a new unbundled (LLU) superfast broadband (FTTC) product, which would most likely give UK ISPs more control and price flexibility over their services.

CBI Report Tells UK to Fix Rural and Urban Broadband Divide Before 2015

Ofcom UK Open 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz to 4G Mobile Broadband

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has today officially allowed Mobile Network Operators (MNO) in the United Kingdom to repurpose their existing radio spectrum (specifically 900MHz, 2100MHz and 1800MHz) for use by the new generation of superfast 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband services.

BT Sign £264m Superfast Broadband Upgrade Contract for Scotland UK

The government of Scotland has today signed a state aid supported £264 million deal with BT that will make “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services available to 85% of local homes and businesses by the end of 2015 and around 95% by the end of 2017. As before we don’t know what proportion of those will get “superfast” (25Mbps+) speeds.
