ISP LN Communications has expanded the reach of its 50Mbps (Megabits per second) capable fixed wireless broadband network to cover around 700 residents of Stathern Village in Leicestershire (England). Villages within the Vale of Belvoir are next on the list to receive the service.

A Policy and Resources committee meeting of the Dumfries and Galloway Council in Scotland has confirmed that the local authority will commit £12.6 million to help make superfast broadband ISP connectivity available to 85% of local premises by 2015.

A new report from Point Topic has claimed that the cost of making superfast broadband (30Mbps+) available to 100% of the UK and Europe could be just £69 billion (EUR 82bn), which is considerably less than the original estimate of up to £228 bn (EUR 270bn). The catch is it would be hybrid-fibre (FTTC/N) and not true fibre optic (FTTH/P).

Internet providers BT, Sky Broadband and Virgin Media have confirmed that their broadband customers will shortly find themselves unable to access the Download4All and Movie2k websites after a court order issued in late April 2013 forced both to be censored over copyright infringement (piracy).
