Techy-focused broadband ISP Olilo, which first launched in early September 2025 (here), has today announced that they’re about to reduce prices across their Openreach-based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband packages. The changes are set to be introduced from 1st April 2026.

The Government’s recently published Statement of Strategic Priorities (SSP) for telecommunications (here) appears to have rejected calls by some, but not all, alternative UK broadband networks for Ofcom to make access to run new fibre optic cables via Openreach’s (BT) existing cable ducts and poles cheaper in rural areas.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has this week confirmed that they’ve recently started to roll-out or expand their new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband ISP network across the Somerset festival town of Glastonbury, as well as 9 more locations that stretch right across the United Kingdom.

Shropshire-based independent ISP Aquiss has called for the abolition of “unnecessary and unjustifiable” Broadband Cease Charges across the industry, which reflects charges that are typically imposed by wholesale network operators on retail service providers when a customer disconnects from their network.

Some customers of mobile and broadband ISP EE (BT), specifically those on their top 1.6Gbps speed full fibre (FTTP) package via Openreach’s national network, appear to have spent the weekend suffering from a significant reduction in download speed (some down to c.50-70Mbps), connectivity problems and a lack of effective support.

Concerns are growing for one of the UK market’s smaller providers of retail internet services, Zone Broadband, which since earlier this month seems to have been attracting a rising number of complaints from customers who appear to have lost connectivity and are struggling to get any support from the ISP.

The Wiltshire Council in England has confirmed that it’s taking UK broadband and telecoms giant Openreach (BT) to the Swindon Magistrates Court over a dispute related to permits. The hearing is set to take place on 1st July 2026 and could potentially result in the network access provider being fined thousands of pounds.

In a significant development, national broadband operator Openreach (BT) has this morning announced that they’re replacing long-serving CEO, Clive Selley, with current Deputy CEO Katie Milligan from 1st April 2026. Clive will then will become CEO of BT International, where he succeeds Bas Burger who has decided to leave BT after 18 years of service on the same date.

The Scottish Government (SG) has officially relaunched their proposed gigabit broadband roll-out procurement for Fife, Perth and Kinross. The proposed contract is valued at £28,557,891 excluding VAT and aims to help expand such a network to cover an estimated total number of 17,830 premises in hard-to-reach areas (i.e. those not covered by any other gigabit networks).

National operator Openreach (BT) has today warned that “more than half a million business lines” still haven’t migrated away from the old Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to new IP-based digital phone (VoIP etc.) alternatives, which with only 12-months to go until the service is switched-off risks firms being exposed to price hikes, as well as “failing equipment and eventual loss of service“.

Long-running UK ISP VISPA, which was first launched way back in 1999, appears to have begun informing customers that they’ve “ceased trading and decided to commence liquidation proceedings“. The provider’s remaining broadband subscribers have been told they will need to “immediately” find an alternative.

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has today published their latest Q3 FY26 financial results. The figures show that they now have 1.768 million fixed broadband customers (up strongly by 64k in Q3 vs 50k in Q2) and a huge combined mobile base of 28.619m (down from 28.824m).

Telecoms giant BT Group just published a short trading update to the end December 2025 (Q3 FY26), which reveals that Openreach lost a total of 210,000 broadband lines to rivals over the past quarter (down from 242k in Sept 2025). But their “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage grew to 21.4 million premises (up from 20.3m) and take-up increased to 38% (up from 37.66%).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today announced the launch of a new mobile safety app to help combat a surge in abuse and assaults on its UK telecoms engineers. Since April last year, there’s been around 700 incidents of either physical or verbal assaults and threats, including some cases where people have needed time off work to recover.
