The North Yorkshire Council (NYC) in England has proposed to wind-up the NYNet 100 company, which was originally created to help carry out procurement and contract management for the local authority’s Superfast North Yorkshire (SFNY) project. This has helped 201,000 premises in the rural county to access faster broadband over the last 15 years.

Network operator Openreach has today revealed that their engineers, alongside those of other alternative networks, are now resuming efforts to both maintain their existing network in the village of Bramley (Surrey) and to deploy new full fibre broadband (FTTP) infrastructure. Much of this was stopped a few years ago after the seriousness of a local petrol leak became clear.

UK ISP Plusnet has refreshed the discounts they offer across their home broadband plans for new customers, which for example has cut the monthly price of their top 900Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) package to just £36.99 per month on a 24-month term (mid-contract price hikes apply). Some packages also now include reward cards worth up to £100.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has begun to trial panic alarms for their staff after revealing that UK engineers reported 450 incidents of abuse and assault in the year to the end of March 2025, which is up 8% in the last year and represents a shocking 40% increase when compared with 2022-23. Other providers have seen a similar trend.

Network operator PlatformX Communications (PXC), which is a trading name of UK provider TalkTalk that sells wholesale solutions to ISPs and other network providers, has recently been causing some frustration among their partners. The problem began after they attempted to set an early date for the withdrawal of SMPF based broadband products (shared unbundled lines).

Hull-based network operator KCOM, which has already deployed their own full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across a big chunk of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, has today confirmed that their new infrastructure sharing solution (i.e. giving rivals access to their cable ducts and poles) will officially go live on 1st August 2025. But is it too little, too late.

The Telecoms Minister, Sir Chris Bryant, recently issued an important update on their efforts to boost growth by removing barriers to digital infrastructure deployment. The statement covered progress with flexi-permits and softening the rules for new mobile masts, but it also touched on how they intend to help get gigabit broadband into large residential buildings (blocks of flats / apartments).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today revealed that they’ve just put their 5000th EV (Electric Vehicle) on the road to support their broadband and phone engineers (up from 4,300 at the start of 2025). The move marks a key milestone on their plan to become a zero emissions business by March 2031.

Residents in the tiny rural Gwynedd (Wales) village of Llangwnnadl have been left without access to fixed broadband and phone services for several weeks. Local news reports claim that the situation began after a telecoms pole replacement was carried out by Openreach, which is unusual as normally such work is carried out to fix and not cause a fault.

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone has published their first combined Q1 FY26 financial results with Three UK. The figures show that the merged entity has 1.654 million fixed broadband customers (up by 44k in Q1 vs 61k in the previous quarter) and a huge combined mobile base of 28.765m – making them the “biggest mobile network operator in the UK“.

Telecoms giant BT Group just published a short trading update to the end June 2025 (Q1 FY26), which reveals that Openreach lost another 169,000 total broadband lines to rival networks over the past quarter (down from 243k in the previous quarter). But they also saw their “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage grow to over 19 million premises (up by 1m) and take-up increased to 37% (up from 36.13%).

Openreach (BT) has today published the next (Tranche 21) batch of 137 exchanges in their “FTTP Priority Exchange Stop Sell” programme, which reflects areas where over 75% of premises are able to get full fibre lines and will thus stop selling copper based legacy phone and broadband products (i.e. FTTP becomes the only product option).

Network access provider Openreach has decided to extend the ongoing UK pilot of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband lines for “Uninhabitable Locations” for a further 12-months (i.e. where the service is used to connect non-traditional end points such as CCTV cameras, bus shelter signs, EV charging points, lift lines etc.).

Network operator Openreach (BT) are testing a relaxation of their FTTP broadband Priority Exchange Stop Sell rules and Copper line re-arrangement in the Kenton Road Exchange area. This is one of the three exchanges taking part in their initial pilot project to test approaches, before eventually closing c.4,600 of their legacy exchanges from 2030 onwards.
