The outgoing CEO of Vodafone Group, Vittorio Colao, has told an investors meeting, which was discussing their plans for next generation broadband ISP and mobile infrastructure, that they’re still talking with BT (Openreach) about the possibility of an agreement on fibre services but they’re not yet in the “right place.”

BT has released their Q1 2018 (calendar) results, which sees them increase FTTP and Mobile infrastructure investment via an annual capex allocation of around £3.7bn (excluding BDUK) and report that 1.56 million UK premises are now covered by their G.fast and FTTP based “ultrafast broadband” (100Mbps+).

Coventry-based business ISP Syscomm has today become the latest to launch a new range of 330Mbps (50Mbps upload) capable G.fast broadband packages, which will be aimed at SMEs across Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Birmingham.

Openreach has decided to extend the UK ISP trial phase for their new Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA) product until 1st October 2018, which will one day enable consumers to buy a standalone FTTC “fibre broadband” (VDSL2 or G.fast) line without the voice (phone) service.

Little known non-profit UK internet provider Green ISP appears to have quietly become the next to launch a G.fast based ‘up to’ 330Mbps (30Mbps upload) ultrafast broadband package with unlimited usage. The service is priced from £41.99 per month but does NOT include line rental (installation is £105).

Low cost UK internet provider TalkTalk has today officially launched their new range of unlimited G.fast based ultrafast home broadband packages, which offer download speeds of ‘up to’ 150Mbps (30Mbps upload) and 300Mbps (50Mbps upload) from just £40 per month (including line rental).

A new study has estimated that around 4.1% of premises in the United Kingdom are likely to be affected by full to capacity FTTC (VDSL2) based “fibre broadband” street cabinets on Openreach’s (BT) network, which is up from 3% last year. Related premises may be unable to order the faster ISP service.

The business division of residential ISP TalkTalk, which is naturally called TalkTalk Business, has announced that they’ve started a trial of 330Mbps capable hybrid fibre G.fast broadband technology for Wholesale and Partner customers. The commercial launch will then follow sometime this “summer“.

The General Manager of “ultrafast broadband” at TalkTalk has switched sides and will soon join Virgin Media to become an Executive Director of Connectivity. The move comes ahead of both the ISP’s commercial G.fast launch and after their proposal to rollout 1Gbps FTTH/P to 3 million premises.

A specialist ISP for the UK education market, Schools Broadband, has invited schools to beta test their new 330Mbps G.fast based ultrafast broadband service. Participants can expect a free installation and free no-obligation service for 1 year (includes DfE compliant web filtering and network security).

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has filed for a Judicial Review of last year’s decision by the UK Advertising Standards Authority, which ruled that it was “not materially misleading” for ISPs to describe slower hybrid fibre services (e.g. FTTC / HFC DOCSIS) as “fibre broadband.”

Internet provider uno (uno Comms Ltd) has today become the next UK ISP after BT to pilot a new range of “ultrafast broadband” packages based off the fledgling hybrid fibre G.fast network, which can offer download speeds of up to 160Mbps (30Mbps up) and 330Mbps (50Mbps up).

Openreach’s accelerated “Fibre First” plan to deploy FTTP “ultrafast broadband” to 3 million UK premises by 2020 (here) has allegedly left the Government “extremely frustrated,” so much so that they are rumoured to be revisiting the option of completely splitting BT’s network access division.

The incumbent telecoms operator for Hull in East Yorkshire, KCOM, has today confirmed that more people on their network are now using their new Gigabit capable “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband lines than older copper (ADSL) based connections for the first time.

BT has released their latest results to the end of 2017 (Q4 calendar), which saw their retail UK broadband ISP base add 35K subscribers to total 9,342,000 (vs +22K in Q3). Meanwhile their FTTP and G.fast “ultrafast broadband” (100Mbps+) services reached 886,000 premises (up from 770K).

Openreach (BT) has today announced that they intend to deploy Gigabit capable “full fibre” (FTTP) ultrafast broadband to 3 million premises in 8 major UK cities by 2020 via their new ‘Fibre First‘ build programme, which is up from the current target of 2 million by the same date.

UK internet provider BT has today launched a new range of “ultrafast fibre broadband” packages to support both the latest hybrid fibre G.fast and “full fibre” FTTP technologies, which offer download speeds of up to 152Mbps and 314Mbps. On top of that there’s a 100Mbps “speed guarantee.”
