Budget internet and phone provider PlusNet looks set to launch an affordable new range of broadband and superfast fibre (FTTC) packages from Wednesday next week (19th December 2012) that will offer an unlimited usage allowance instead of their usual data caps. The cheapest deal is expected to cost from just £4.99 a month.

Computing magazine PC Pro has announced the winners of its annual PCPro Excellence Awards 2012, which saw Zen Internet win the Best ISP gong for a ninth time (overall satisfaction score of 93%). Meanwhile BE Broadband (83%) and PlusNet (83%) walked away as runners up. Sadly other ISPs didn’t do quite so well.

Budget internet and phone provider PlusNet has today launched two new superfast broadband (FTTC) packages, which offer internet download speeds of up to 76Mbps alongside a bigger usage allowance of 250GB (GigaBytes), free installation and UK calls. Prices start at just £19.99 a month.

Broadband ISP PlusNet UK has revealed that internet streaming services (e.g. YouTube) now account for over 42% of all usage on its network during the evening and often peak at 50-60% depending on what’s happening (i.e. big sporting events). A raft of other stats have also been published including some that hint at a possible abuse of the SkyGo service.

A new study from budget broadband ISP PlusNet, which surveyed 3,360 UK mums between mid February and March 2012, has discovered that the vast majority (82%) rely on the internet for parental advice, 41% do their weekly shop online to save time and for some reason more than half (51%) even researched their children’s homework online.

UK ISP PlusNet has said that there are still “plenty of spaces open” on its trial of up to 80Mbps (Megabits per second) Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) broadband technology, which was made available to all residential subscribers last month (currently 100 staff and customers are taking part). Results so far are said to have been “very positive“.
