Some of the country’s broadband ISPs have told ISPreview.co.uk that Rights Holders are putting pressure on them to prevent their broadband customers from being able to access two extra website (EZTV and Yify-Torrents), which have both been accused of facilitating internet copyright infringement (piracy).

Following this week’s controversial meeting with the government’s culture secretary, Maria Miller, four of the United Kingdom’s biggest broadband ISPs (BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Sky Broadband) have agreed to collectively commit £1 million over the next 4 years to “crack down” on the creation and distribution of online child abuse content.

The mobile division of Virgin Media has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they will next month drop the “unlimited data” (Mobile Broadband) aspect of their Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) based Big Data and Texts top-ups, which launched at the end of last year (here), in favour of a capped usage allowance.

International cable operator Liberty Global (LGi) has, after clearing all the necessary shareholder and regulatory approvals, officially completed its £15bn (enterprise value) acquisition of broadband, phone and TV giant Virgin Media in the United Kingdom.

Customers of Virgin Media’s cable broadband and TV network in Portsmouth on the south coast of England could be left without service for up to three days after contractors conducting roadworks cut through one of the operators vital cables. Separately Virgin are also testing a new Traffic Management policy on the 100Mbps+ package.

Cable operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has today announced the official launch of its new SuperHub V2 wireless broadband modem and router, which it describes as being the “fastest wireless hub in the UK” thanks to their new concurrent dual band wifi (5GHz and 2.4GHz) technology.

Management consultancy giant Arthur D. Little has published a new paper that examines the importance of investing in better telecoms infrastructure. It also predicts that the UK might need to adopt ultrafast (100Mbps+) fibre optic FTTH broadband “over the next five years“, unless G.Fast is realised to expand the life of FTTC.

BT, Sky Broadband (BSkyB) and Virgin Media have all now confirmed that they plan to join TalkTalk (HomeSafe) in launching an automatic network level filtering service in the UK, which would block access to websites that contain “adult” content.

Cable operator Virgin Media Business has detailed its new £49 million backhaul network capacity deal with BSkyB (Sky Broadband). Under the agreement Virgin will connect around a third of Sky’s unbundled (LLU) local UK telephone exchanges with Sky’s own wholly owned nationwide broadband network.
