The Guardian newspaper reports that Californian search engine giant, Google, may be preparing to bid on wireless spectrum freed up by
Ofcom (
here).
It's understood that Google are considering their own mobile and or broadband service in the UK, potentially threatening the countries established operators (O2, T-Mobile etc.).
Presently the report is little more than speculation, albeit speculation with some traction. Over the pond Google already plans to bid more than £2.3bn on spectrum in the U.S when it comes up for sale early next year, for use by its rumoured Gphone service.
